The joint meeting of the Institute for Political and International Studies and Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) was held on the topic of developing cooperation and opportunities between Iran and South Korea with the presence of Dr. Khalil Shirgholami, Vice President of Research and senior experts of the Institute for Political and International Studies and Dr. Lee Gunhyung, Vice President of the KIEP and the accompanying delegation on August 27, 2023.
The first part, titled The New Regional Order and Relations between Iran and Korea, stated that the relations between the two countries, despite the very golden past, are currently facing some fluctuations. In this regard, South Korea should strengthen its relations with Iran in various fields based on common interests, considering the recent regional changes.
The second part mentioned that the international system is currently moving towards a multipolar order and multilateralism. In this situation, there will be no possibility of zero-sum game activism between regional and extra-regional actors. Therefore, all parties should play a new role and readjust the foreign policy based on the new situations.
Before this meeting, the accompanying delegation of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) met and talked with Dr. Sheikholeslami, the head of the Institute for Political and International Studies. In this meeting, while pointing out the relationship between the Institute for Studies of the two countries, the two sides emphasized the need to expand think tanks and scientific cooperation.
