The Educational Deputy of the Center for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an online educational seminar on Monday, January 27, 2025, with a speech by Professor Atsuko Kanehara, University Professor and Research Director of the Canon Institute for Global Studies, and Senior Research Fellow at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan. The lecture was presented under the title: "Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Looking at Japan's Ocean Policy and Iran-Japan Relations". Mr. Tsukada Tamaki, the Ambassador of Japan to our country, along with a large number of diplomats from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and some senior diplomats from the Japanese Embassy in Tehran, participated in this meeting.

In her speech, Ms. Kanehara stated: "Since the use of the word 'strategy' can be sensitive, we use the word 'perspective' when explaining Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific policy. The international community is currently at a historical turning point. The emergence of new countries and attention to developing countries, as well as today's complex crises, have led us to seek greater cooperation in the international community. Iran is one of the main oil producers and a country on the edge of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which are two important international waterways, especially in connection with energy shipping lines, which is of particular importance from this perspective."

Ms. Kanehara considered the core principles of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific policy to include freedom and the rule of law, respect for pluralism and diversity, inclusiveness, and openness at sea, and explained the details of each of these principles in detail.

At the end of the session, in addition to answering questions from the participants, she emphasized better relations between Iran and Japan.

(Also, Mr. Tsukada Tamaki, the Ambassador of Japan to our country, was also present at the meeting)
