The conference "Syunik in the context of history, strategic importance, perspective of economic cooperation and investment" was held on September 20, 2023, with the cooperation of the Institute for Political and International Studies in Kapan, Armenia.

The conference started with the speech of Gevorg Parsyan, the mayor of Kapan and Mr. Morteza Abedin, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kapan, Armenia, and then at the meeting of Mr. Karen Khanlari, Former representative of the Islamic Council on the subject of Syunik geographical explanations in Islamic sources, Hossein Ahmadi, Professor of Islamic Azad University, on the subject of investigating the role of Syunik province in regional and international equations (based on historical aspects), Gevorg Stepanian, Professor of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia on the subject of the strategic role of Syunik-Artsakh in the discourse of the expansionist claims of the Republic of Azerbaijan in relation to Azarabadegan province of Iran, Ahmad Kazemi, university professor and senior researcher of Eurasia, on the subject of NATO's Turan Corridor intrigue in the context of the transition to the new world order and the place of Syunik in it, Aaron Vartanian, lecturer of the Department of Iranian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yerevan University on the subject of ethnic relocations in the eastern parts of historical Syunik during the years after the Iran-Russia wars, Jafar Khasha, head of the Caucasus Studies Foundation of Tehran University on the subject of geopolitical turmoil in the South Caucasus; chaotic and tension-generating trends presented their views and opinions.

In the second meeting, Ali Beman Iqbali Zarch, the head of the Eurasia Study Department of the Institute for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a speech on the subject of the position and role of the Syunik region in strengthening the axis of dealing with geostrategic changes and the expansion of NATO to the East, and then, Nazif, senior expert in regional studies of the Caucasus and member of the board of directors of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Association on the subject of the importance of the Syunik-East Azarbaijan route in the Persian Gulf-Black Sea corridor, Shoaib Bahman, head of the Institute of Contemporary World Studies on the subject of the position and role of Syunik region in strengthening the axis of dealing with geostrategic changes and the expansion of NATO to the East, Garik Misakian, Iranology chair lecturer, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yerevan University on the subject of the policy of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in the division of Syunik and Artsakh (ethno-political aspects), Jafar Haqpanah, Visiting Professor of Regional Studies, University of Tehran on the subject of the Syunik's role in strengthening the Iran-Armenia corridor, Liana Petrosyan, Iranology chair lecturer, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yerevan University on the subject of the cooperation between Armenia and Iran in Syunik as a counterweight to the alignment of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Majid Karimi, a senior expert on Caucasus issues, on the subject of the importance of the Syunik region in strengthening the axis of dealing with geostrategic changes and the expansion of NATO to the East.
