The joint virtual meeting between the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) and the Institute of World Economy and Politics (IWEP) of Kazakhstan, about the regional and bilateral issues, was held on Monday, October 18, 2021.

The meeting was formed in the form of two panels, “Bilateral Relations: Key Achievements and Future Goals”, “Security Challenges and the Perspective of Regional Cooperation”.

Here are the major topics touched upon at the meeting:

  • Iran was one of the first countries that recognized Kazakhstan following its independence. Also, the two countries have always enjoyed friendly and brotherly relations based on mutual trust and respect. The Tehran and Nur-Sultan ties have since old times been on the rise in all areas, despite all the ups and downs due to various reasons including the US unilateral sanctions and the corona pandemic.
  • At present , there is no obstacle to the expansion of Iran and Kazakhstan relations in all various areas. The potential capacities for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic sector, can be boosted more than ever through regional cooperation, especially by wider interaction with the Shanghai and CICA Organizations.
  • While the international system is in a transitioning status to fundamental geopolitical changes, the interaction and expansion of cooperation among the regional countries in all areas can preserve and expand stability and security. Therefore, strengthening regional cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan can play a constructive and positive role in promoting peace and security, especially in the Central Asian region.
  • The Kazakhstan developments and the change of the government have more than ever complicated the regional equations. The two countries of Iran and Kazakhstan have always stressed the importance of stability and security in Afghanistan and formation of a comprehensive government as the only way out of the present situation.
