The event included speeches and the opening of a photo exhibition that highlighted the history and significance of these conventions and Iran's role in their implementation.

The Geneva Conventions, adopted in 1949, are a set of international treaties that aim to protect individuals who do not participate in hostilities or who are no longer taking part in them. These conventions form the core of international humanitarian law and protect civilians, the wounded, the sick, and prisoners of war. Iran joined the conventions in 1955 and has since been committed to its obligations.

At the ceremony, Dr. Shirgholami, Deputy Director of CPIS, emphasized the importance of the Geneva Conventions and Iran's commitment to humanitarian values. He also referred to the recent aggressions of the Zionist regime in Gaza, as well as the erosion of international rules and norms and the double standards in this regard, and called for greater attention from states to their international responsibilities based on these rules and norms.

The head of the ICRC delegation in Tehran, Mr. Vincent Cassar, drawing on his extensive experience in international humanitarian law, addressed some of the challenges and issues in this field. Mr. Julian Brigue, Deputy Head of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, also spoke about his country's role in supporting the Geneva Conventions and strengthening humanitarian cooperation.

The event was attended by a number of foreign diplomats residing in Iran, as well as researchers and experts in the fields of political science and international law.
