The joint virtual meeting of the IPIS and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute about the regional developments with focus on the Persian Gulf and international developments with focus on the JCPOA was held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

At the meeting, Dr.Mohammadhassan Sheikholeslami, President of IPIS,Dr.Seyedkazem Sajjadpour Minister Advisor, Seyedmajid Ghafelehbashi, Research deputy of IPIS, Mohammadtaghi Hosseinin Education Deputy of IPIS, Mostafa Dowlatyar Studies Senior Expert of the institute, Jan Eliasson Chairman of SIPRI institute, Joakim Vaverka Vice-president of SIPRI, Shannon Kile and Ms.Tytti Erasto Senior Experts of SIPRI made speeches about nuclear disarmament, arms nonproliferation and control.

Here are the topics raised at the meeting:

  • Just and fair peace, security and stability in the Persian Gulf has been defined as the main historical, civilizational and economic ecosystem of the Islamic republic of Iran. The Islamic republic of Iran will always continue its efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the Persian Gulf and hopes with trust, cooperation and coordination all regional countries will adopt an interaction-oriented approach to achieve this goal. In the vicinity of the Persian Gulf, the country and people of Yemen are suffering from appalling humanitarian conditions. The settlement of the Yemen crisis is conditioned to addressing the root causes of the dispute, the UN playing a just unbiased and pivotal role, respect to the Yemeni people’s will for determining their destiny and lifting the oppressive siege of the country.
  • The JCPOA was an effective agreement as well as an achievement for collective diplomacy that must be preserved. Preservation and correct implementation of the JCPOA lead to regional stability and strengthening of nonproliferation on the international arena. In case the JCPOA negotiations fail, gaining a substitute in the distant future will be out of reach. Nowadays, the international issues are interconnected and the only way for solving the international issues is through cooperation among the countries and strengthening multilaterism.
  • The Ukraine crisis showed that the Nuclear Deterrence Theory had high risks. It seems the US and Russia, following the Ukraine developments, will move to develop their missile and nuclear arms.
