 The joint virtual meeting between the Institute for Political and International Studies(IPIS) and the International Studies Center of Thailand (ISC) about the regional and international issues was held on Wednesday,  December 2 , 2020. The meeting was attended by Dr.Mohammad KazemSajjadpour – Deputy Minister of MOFA & President of IPIS, Mr.Majid Ghafelehbashi-Research Deputy at the Cenetr, Ali Khoshroo-Former Iranian Ambassador to UN, Kambiz Sheikh Hassani and Mohsen Mohammadi- Senior Experts at the Studies Center, Keyhan Barzegar- University Professor,Mr.Anuson Chinvanno- President of ISC, Ms.Chatvadee Chindawongse and Ms.Kanyarat Vejjajjva- -Senior Researchers at ISC Center.

Pivotal topics touched upon at the virtual webinar were the latest developments in the southeast Asia, the middle east and the Persian gulf, the ASEAN developments, the JCPOA and the US election impacts on the international order which were discussed at two sessions focused on regional and international issues.

issues emphasized at the meeting included the necessity for cooperation, dialogue, strengthening bilateral relations and multilateralism for overcoming all regional and international problems. In this regard, the experience of the south east Asian states in unity in fighting the corona pandemic was assessed.

After that, also, the potential opportunities in the south east Asia and west Asia as well as certain concerns and threats to these regions were discussed and it was emphasized that the only way out of the problems and for maximization of all states’ interests is joint cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations as well as upgrading bilateral relations between countries.

It was stated at the meeting that Trump administration’s policies  and the US unilaterism have weakened multilaterism , and the changes at the white house can cause significant effects  for the south east Asia and middle east regions. Changes pointed out may include the US return to international agreements such as the JCPOA and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Other topics discussed at the meeting include the JCPOA and the Asian countries duties in supporting this agreement  and the US election impacts on the future of the JCPOA and it was stated that , by illegally withdrawing from this agreement, the US has created tension in the region.

Also, the attendees at the meeting condemned the Iranian scientist’s ,Dr.Fakhrizadeh,  assassination and pointed out the double standards and silence of certain countries in condemning this criminal act.
