Dr. Mohammad Hassan Sheikholeslami, at the head of a delegation from the Institute for Political and International Studies, traveled to Tokyo at the invitation of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) to hold the annual joint meeting between the two institutions.

 Meeting with the Senior Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

In this regard, Dr. Sheikholeslami first met and talked with Mr. Funakoshi, the senior political deputy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. In this meeting, the head of the Institute for Political and International Studies, while pointing out the history of relations between the two countries at the level of people-to-people and diplomatic relations, expressed hope that the relations between the two countries would expand in various fields. Mr. Funakoshi, while referring to the recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran to Japan and his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the Prime Minister, evaluated the results and achievements of this visit as very good and positive. Furthermore, the parties exchanged views on important bilateral, regional, and international issues.

 Speech at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation

The head of the Institute for Political and International Studies at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Tokyo gave a speech in the presence of many experts, Japanese professors, journalists, and resident diplomats on August 29, 2023. In this speech, he explained the three axes of the evolving world order, Iran's attitude towards this situation, and the foreign policy of the 13th administration. Then, he answered the questions of the audience.

 Holding the 11th joint meeting

The 11th joint meeting of the Institute for Political and International Studies and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation was held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in Tokyo. In this meeting, which was opened by the speech of Dr. Sheikholeslami, the head of the Institute for Political and International Studies, Peyman Saadat, the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador in Japan, and Adachi, the executive director of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the two sides discussed and exchanged the issues of the Persian Gulf and Asia-Pacific regions, the evolving conditions of the world order and relations between Iran and Japan. During this meeting, Dr. Sheikholeslami and the accompanying delegation also met with Mr. Sunami, the head of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and discussed the cooperation between the two countries.

Participating in the meeting of think tanks of Japan Institute of International Affairs, Japan Institute of Energy Economics, Middle East Institute of Japan (MEIJ), and Asia Pacific Institute was the other programs of this several-day visit.

Also, the head of the Institute for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered in an interview with the Nikkei newspaper of Japan regarding the evaluation of the exchange of prisoners between Iran and the United States, the negotiations to revive the JCPOA and the resumption of Iran-Egypt relations. Explaining the new evolutions in the world order and creating new dynamics based on multilateralism, the goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran to join global alliances such as BRICS, Iran's strategy in relation to its neighbors, especially the Persian Gulf countries, as a foreign policy priority of the 13th administration and bilateral relations with Japan was one of the other axes of this media dialogue.
