Virtual Session with International Committee of the Red Cross Concerning Humanitarian Policies during Covid-19 Era

The humanitarian policies session was held between the Political Studies center and the International Committee of the Red Cross about Covid-19 on Nov.30, 2020 , which was attended by Dr.Mohammad KazemSajjadpour – Deputy Minister of MOFA & President of IPIS, Mr. Reza Najafi - Director General for International Peace and Security Department of the MFA, Mr. Hassan Esfandiar – IRCS Director General, International Protocols and Communication, Dr.Nasrin Mossafa, University of Tehran professor , Ms.Mansooreh Sharifi Sadr, Senior Research fellow (IPIS) and a group of colleagues from the center, Ms. Alexandra Boivin – ICRC Head of Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy, Ms. Katharina Ritz – ICRC Head of Delegation, Yemen, Barbara Rizoli, head of the delegation of international committee of the red cross in Iran, Mr. Julien Chalier – ICRC Head of Movement Cooperation and Coordination, Middle East and Mr.Nicholas Hawton, Middle East Diplomatic Adviser (ICRC), and another group pf colleagues from the International committee of the Red Cross.

The speakers ,at the session, presented and discussed views about the humanitarian impacts and consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the challenges and achievements thereof on the Iranian and regional levels. The main talking points touched upon at this virtual meeting were: The negative consequences of restricting measures such as the sanctions in providing needed humanitarian aid, necessity for global cooperation and unity, devastating impacts of the Covid-19 on war-torn countries, the humanitarian services of the international committee of the red cross in relation to Covid-19 in the middle east region , namely Yemen, and the influential performance and cooperation by the Iranian red Cross Society (IRCS) with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

At the end of the meeting, the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) and the international committee of the red cross expressed their agreement and readiness for continuing cooperation in holding meetings and in research and educational sectors in humanitarian areas.
